Roly Skender is one of the more freewheeling musical artists to emerge from Perth in the last 20 years. Roly has ignored the boundaries suggested by the notion of genre and following his own creative aesthetic. This work in part led to the formation of Rawbone, a cutting edge live audiovisual project with DJ Jo19 (Joe Mansell). With double bassist Pete Jeavons on board they became the Rawbone Trio and it is from this incarnation that the debut Roly Skender EP, Free, has arisen. The EP also features the self-produced video clip for Free, itself a work of greatness, indicating that Roly's visual mindset (literally) sails alongside that of his musical prowess. Along with Jeavons and Mansell, keyboardist Ronan Charles is now on board for the live band, 'The Big Toe' which will be the spearhead of Roly's live performances in 2005. The four songs on this debut EP hint at some pretty enticing directions on Roly Skender's forthcoming album, due in 2005. For now, be mesmerised by Free and all it can be.
